Instructions :
1Prepare the beef patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
2Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties, each about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
3Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil to the skillet if using.
4Once the grill or skillet is hot, place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, until a crust forms and the patties are easily lifted without sticking.
5Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each one. Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired level of doneness.
6Remove the patties from the grill or skillet and let them rest for a few minutes.
7While the patties are resting, lightly toast the cut sides of the hamburger buns on the grill or in the skillet until golden brown.
8Assemble the burgers by spreading 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun.
9Place a lettuce leaf on top of the mayonnaise, followed by a slice of tomato.
10Add a cooked beef patty with melted cheese on top of the tomato.
11Place a few slices of red onion and two slices of dill pickle on top of the cheese.
12Drizzle 1 tablespoon of ketchup and 1 teaspoon of mustard over the toppings.
13Finish by placing the top half of the bun on the burger.
14Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
Notes :
- Ensure the ground beef is 80% lean for the right balance of juiciness and flavor.
- Use freshly ground black pepper for the best aroma and taste.
- Gently mix the beef and seasonings to avoid overworking, which can make the patties tough.
- Form patties evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
- Make an indentation in the patties to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
- Preheat the grill or skillet to medium-high heat for a good sear.
- Use olive oil in the skillet to prevent sticking.
- Cook patties until they form a crust before flipping to ensure they don't stick.
- Place cheese slices on patties after flipping to allow melting.
- Let the patties rest before assembling to retain juices.
- Toast buns slightly for added texture and flavor.
- Use fresh lettuce and tomato for crispness and freshness.
- Slice onions thinly for a mild onion flavor.
- Use dill pickles for a tangy contrast to the rich beef.
- Spread mayonnaise evenly on the bun for creaminess.
- Layer ingredients in the suggested order for the best structural integrity.
- Serve the burgers immediately to enjoy the optimal taste and texture.
- Customize sides based on personal preference, such as fries, salad, or coleslaw.
Tips :
- Choose ground beef with an 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio for juicier and more flavorful burgers.
- Handle the beef mixture gently to avoid compacting the meat, which can make the patties tough.
- Make sure the patties are evenly sized for uniform cooking.
- Creating an indentation in the center of each patty helps prevent it from bulging in the middle as it cooks.
- Preheat the grill or skillet thoroughly to ensure a good sear on the patties.
- Use a neutral or light olive oil to prevent overpowering the flavor of the beef.
- Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking to retain juices.
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness; 160°F (71°C) is recommended for ground beef.
- Letting the patties rest allows the juices to redistribute, keeping them moist.
- Toasting the buns enhances flavor and adds texture to the burger.
- For extra flavor, you can lightly butter the buns before toasting.
- Choose fresh, crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes for the best texture and flavor.
- Slice tomatoes and onions evenly for consistent layering.
- Keep toppings organized for quick assembly.
- Customize condiments according to taste preferences.
- Serve burgers immediately to enjoy them at their best temperature and texture.
- Consider pairing with classic sides like fries, coleslaw, or a simple salad.
- Store any unused ingredients properly to maintain freshness for future use.
